Measuring the concentration of LIVE biomass on-line can be critical in any brewing, fermentation or cell culture process. The Aber Instrument range of YEAST MONITORS for brewing and BIOMASS MONITORS for biotechnology are widely recognised for this application and have been adopted as a standard with many of the global breweries and biopharma companies. The Yeast Monitor measures the concentration of LIVE yeast with an on-line capacitance probe with 4 electrodes. A radio frequency applied from the electrodes causes ions in the suspending medium and the cytoplasm of the yeast to move towards the two respective oppositely charged electrodes. The measured capacitance is directly proportional to the amount of viable yeast within a sample over a wide measurement range.
